Teams connect an agent to their data by pointing it at the same reporting layer people use. It works for a week, then produces confident answers built on a chart nobody can read back.
A dashboard is a compression designed for human eyes. An agent needs the records before the compression.
What a dashboard hides
- The rows behind an aggregate
- The filter that was applied by default
- The freshness of the underlying data
- The difference between zero and unknown
An agent that cannot see those answers with the confidence of someone who did not know they were missing.
What an agent needs instead
- A query surface with explicit parameters, not a saved view
- Row-level results with a cap and a stated cap
- Field descriptions that say what a null means
- A way to ask one more question about the result
The last one is what turns retrieval into investigation.
Bound the result, then say so
An agent that receives ten thousand rows will summarize them badly. Return a bounded set, say how many were returned and how many exist, and let the next call narrow the question.
Design the failure path
Empty result, ambiguous field, timeout. Each needs a described behavior, and the description belongs in the tool definition the model reads.
Zovda exposes collections through Datuva with field descriptions written for both readers. The data research collection shows the record structure an agent would receive.
